Psychotherapy and counselling

Psychotherapy and counselling are names for what happens when you undertake to meet with a therapist at a set time and in the same place with the mutual aim of exploring your world with a view to working through issues that hold you back in life. The words counselling and psychotherapy are broadly interchangeable. Differences between them are debateable, but psychotherapy may be longer term, the work may be more in depth and multiple issues may be addressed. Counselling might be shorter term and with the specific aim of addressing one key area or issue.

The stresses of modern life and the conflicting demands made of us can sometimes feel unbearable. Acknowledging that there is a problem or difficulty can be a hard thing to do. Coming to the decision to ask for help is not easy, but it is an important first step in beginning a journey towards self-awareness and acceptance.

Some people come into therapy because of a life crisis that feels overwhelming. Others simply wish to explore their inner world in the hope of releasing their true potential. Whatever the reason, psychotherapy and counselling can offer a way into a greater understanding of ourselves and of the patterns that may hold us back in life.
